Dr. Todd Riddle, DC, CCSP, CSCS, RKT, a Houston-based educator, sports chiropractor, and Director of Education for Southeast Professional Education Group (SPEG), has joined the medical team of USA Gymnastics for the 37th FIG Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships. The championships, hosted in Birmingham, England, will be held from Nov. 9 to 19, 2023, and will include more than 1,000 athletes from 40 countries.
A Long History in Treating Elite Athletes
As a former collegiate Division One athlete, Riddle is an excellent addition to the team, with an extensive professional background in kinesiotherapy, musculoskeletal treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery for elite athletes. He has also served on other national medical teams; most notably for the Nigerian women’s bobsled/skeleton team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.
Dr. Riddle has dedicated his career to serving athletes at all levels – first as a coach/trainer and strength and conditioning specialist in his Athletic Republic sports performance facility and then later serving as a sports chiropractor specializing in human performance and physical rehabilitation. He has coached, trained and provided sports chiropractic and rehabilitation care for thousands of athletes over the past two decades, ranging from the amateur to professional–including Olympic medalists, NFL, NFL Europe, XFL, NBA, NHL, PGA, LPGA, MiLB and MLB.
Championing Elite Care for Every Athlete
Embracing the philosophy that you don’t have to be a world-class athlete to receive world-class care, Dr. Riddle applies his extensive experience and knowledge to teach healthcare providers effective methods for assessing and treating their patients. In addition to serving as Assistant Professor at Texas Chiropractic College, he travels the globe teaching hands-on trainings on the FAKTR Rehab System to healthcare providers. After meeting FAKTR co-founder, Dr. Tom Hyde in 2013, Dr. Riddle and his wife Jessica (CEO of Southeast Professional Education Group) acquired the company in 2014 and expanded it into the global powerhouse that it is today. As Director of Education for FAKTR, INC., Dr. Riddle has continued to evolve the course curriculum as new research emerges, allowing the evidence to guide the advancement of the course.
“I’m a self-admitted research nerd,” said Riddle. “Some people read for fun, but the majority of my reading is for knowledge and improvement. I’m fascinated by the human body and want to always make sure our courses are on the cutting-edge of patient care. Our FAKTR providers deserve only the best and so do their patients.”
FAKTR, an acronym that stands for Functional Assessment and Kinetic Treatment with Rehabilitation, is a comprehensive system for assessing and treating musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. In this System, healthcare providers first utilize a specific protocol of assessments and movement evaluations to arrive at a diagnosis. Then, they apply a methodical progression of movement, resistance and proprioceptive rehabilitation (the FAKTR Rehab System) to eliminate pain and restore function. Once pain has been eliminated and function has improved, healthcare providers can then learn the Rehab to Fitness system for advancing their patients into a performance-based functional fitness program designed to build strength, enhance performance and prevent future injury.
Performance Chiropractic: In a Category All it’s Own
In addition to his position with SPEG and FAKTR, Dr. Riddle is also a faculty member of Texas Chiropractic College, teaching Case Management, Passive and Active Physiotherapy Courses and serving as Faculty Advisor for the Sports Chiropractic Student Club.
He also is Clinic Director and Co-Owner of Coastal Performance Chiropractic in Seabrook, TX – a private practice providing customized care to improve the quality of life and performance for athletes and active individuals in the Houston bay-area. As the title suggests, the level of care provided by Dr. Riddle and his team is no different from the world-class treatment he provides when traveling with elite athletes.
And although his calendar may always be full and his travel schedule may prove hectic at times, Dr. Riddle is driven by a passion to help others achieve their dreams–making it all worthwhile.
“This event has proven an incredible chance to once again work with athletes at the top of their sport and I am humbled by their resolve and dedication,” said Riddle. “I am honored to be a part of the USA Gymnastics medical team at this time and am looking forward to helping our athletes excel in their performances during this competition.”
Dr. Riddle is currently in the UK as part of the medical team supporting thirty American gymnasts as compete in the 37th FIG Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships. Prior to the Championships, Dr. Riddle was with the team in France, preparing for the event.
